I talk to so many families who tell me they do not have any good photos of their children, So I wanted to create a guide to help you DIY because I believe that capturing memories is so important.

As a father, I love to have photos of my son (my phone and camera are full of them) They are my most cherished possessions. Life is too short they wont be little for long,

Let Them Play

Kids have lots of energy, It is hard for them to sit still for a long time. They need to be able to run, jump and climb to expend energy first. Take them outside in the back yard or local park, let them loose first. Often you will get good images of them playing.

Find a Location

Pick a spot with a nice background that is not too busy. Lighting is everything! You do not want it too bright so they are squinting with harsh shadows, or too dark. I prefer photos on the darker and moodier side (if you cant tell)

Find something to interact with

A tree to climb, a rock, a leaf, a toy, could be anything. Whatever it is make it fun. Kids are more inclined to want to take a picture when they are having fun.

have your camera handy

Whether it is your phone or a professional camera, Always be ready, the perfect moment will happen and it is gone in an instant. Once it's gone, well you know. Kids are fast so always be prepared. Wait for the perfect moment, and snap.

Reward them

Have a treat like a fun place to go or ice cream for a job well done.
